If you own one or more hamsters or if you are planning to get a new one as a pet you would definitely need to know about all sorts of hamster cages in order to be able to choose the best one for your pet. All hamster cages are not the same and not the price of all are same either. There are lots of important factors that one ought to keep in mind while looking for a cage.
Hamsters need a clean and healthy environment to survive and therefore the cage that you are about to choose need to be able to provide that sort of an environment to your pet. The cage should have a proper ventilation system so that the pet or pets never face any respiratory problems.

Pets like hamsters need a lot of daily exercise as well and therefore one should always try to get a cage that would come with exercising equipments or at least one should get a cage within which one can place exercising accessories later. Wheels are the best of these equipments no doubt and the cage should also have sufficient area for the hamster to be able to climb and run around. When there is scarcity of space hamsters tend to sleep a lot and this would definitely make them obese and sick.
Security is a key factor that one ought to consider because in a household where there are other pets residing, a hamster might be in danger even inside its cage. Stray cats and dogs can also enter the house and harm the pet. Therefore one should select a cage that comes with closely spaced bars and one with a gate that can be securely tightened. This would also keep the hamster safely inside its cage or otherwise hamsters can easily get out and escape from the cage.
Hamster cages are ought to be cleaned every few days and therefore a cage that is easy to clean is of course the best option.
Many people opt for aquariums for hamsters but one should weigh the pros and cons. Aquariums can be harder to clean and would block out natural air ventilation. And even the plastic cages come with similar problems. Cages made out of a combination of wires and plastics are definitely better even though these sorts of cages cost a little more than the other two.
For many the size of a cage would also be a factor to consider. If you have little space in your room then surely you would like to go for a smaller cage but it is important to remember that a very small cage is not very good for the health of the pet.
Another important point to keep in mind is that hamsters chew a lot and they can become obsessed about chewing the bars of the cage. This might lead to the event of the bar being destroyed and a larger hole being created through which the hamster can easily come out of the cage. And secondly the material of the bar can be very harmful to the health of the pet and therefore chewing it might lead to its falling ill, so all these points should be thought over before buying a cage for a hamster.
